News Letter 9 – 2015

Cross Country Winning GroupNews Letter 9 – 2015.

25th of May 2015.
Good day all Cross Country friends.

Firstly, I want to congratulate Mari, Patience, Michael and Boikie who was selected on the AGM to the Cross Country Commission. I see forward to work with you in the next 4 years. The standard was set by us and we will take it a few steps higher in the next 4 seasons.

Even with the winter sport that took place in all three areas, the participation of the leagues last weekend went well and a total 531 athletes was part of the leagues. I attach the results. I want to thank Tiaan, Nico and Michael for the effort to make it a great day.

I also want to attach the Mpumalanga team who will take part in the Interprovincial Championships at Merensky High School on 6 June 2015.

Congratulations to everyone who was selected and for those athletes who missed it, there is another chance on 15 August 2015 with the Mpumalanga Championships. I want to emphasise again, just make sure you reach the criteria of minimum of 4 leagues. There are still enough leagues to reach the goal.

There are a few important points every athlete must know of:

Athletes who indicate they will make use of transport must complete the indemnity form in fully. The form of the minor children must be completed by the legal person i.e. parent, legal guardian of the minor child. NO ONE WILL GET ON THE BUS WITHOUT THE FORM. DO NOT DISAPPOINT YOURSELF ON THE DAY.

There is a lot of athletes of 13 years and older who did not fill in their permanent numbers. If you do not have a permanent number, you must take R25 with to buy a temporary number. No one of this age group will run without a number.

The entry fee to participate is R20. Make sure you take enough money with.

I will attach the letter from Limpopo and make sure you understand how to complete the sticker.

All athletes must check the team list and ensure your information on the list is correct.

If the athlete runs in the wrong age group, he or she will be disqualified for the event.

Athletes who will make use of bus transport, all information will be forwarded by next week Tuesday at the latest.

The names who indicated they will make use of bus transport will get preference. The list was completed according to the acknowledgement forms that were handed in.

If an athlete does not have the provincial attire, they must use their club or school attire. No “smartie box clothes” will be allowed. Only a neutral short and vest if you haven’t got other clothes i.e. a white vest and black or green short.

Athletes are welcome to run individual and they must only run in their club or school attire. The entry fee is the same i.e. R20.

The bus transport is only available for Mpumalanga team athletes. No individual athletes are allowed to make use of bus transport. There are no leagues that will take place this coming weekend. For athletes who will think of do something different, I attach a flyer of a mountain bike race which looks very challenging.
The next league will take place on the 20th of June 2015 and the venues will be announced in the next newsletter:

Take note, the entry fee for 2015 will be R20 and the temporarily licence for the athletes 13 years and older who is not member of an affiliated club is R25.

Lastly, we found a few athletes who used their temporary numbers of the previous leagues. The temporary number is only valid for one race.

The contact details for each area are as follow:

Ngangala: Mari- 0832332677

Gert Sibande: Michael- 0823360662

Ehlanzeni: Boikie- 0829771665

You are welcome to contact me anytime at 0836308729.

Enjoy your week and please be careful when we practice on the road and make sure you keep yourself healthy.

News Letter 7 – 2015

News Letter 7 – 2015.

11th of May 2015.

Good day all Cross Country friends.

Thank you very much to Highveld Pumas, Sasol and Leopard Athletic Club for the great effort they put in to make it a successful weekend.

There were a total of 165 participants at Delmas country lodge and 127 participants at Secunda. Nellsville has a total of 72 athletes.

Unfortunately the finals of a lot of winter sport activities took place this past weekend but I am sure we will see the old faces and new champions over the next couple of weeks.

This coming weekend we will have the selection of the Mpumalanga team for the Interprovincial Championships in all three areas and the process will be the same as last year. For those friends who were not part of cross country last year, I will explain the process:

We will make use of qualifying times for all items but we will only allow a maximum of 7 athletes per item. For example, if there are only 5 athletes who qualify according to the qualifying time, only 5 athletes will be selected and if there is more than 7 that qualify a maximum of 7 will be selected.
Executive Board: Paul Bester (President), Jerry Maseko, Heyns Theron, Pieter Makgato (Vice Presidents),
Theuns Luus (Cross Country), Pieter Botes (Road Running), Andrè Sinclair (Track and Field),
Janine Botes, Moses Skosana, Pieter Steinmann (Additional members)

For the juniors, we use the first athletes time as the base and for example if the winning time of the under 11 boys is 10min, the athletes follow will have 1min 45sec to finish within the qualifying time. If there are 7 athletes within the qualifying time they will be selected. If only 5 athletes finish within the qualifying time only 5 will be selected.

If an athlete is selected, he or she will receive a letter on the day with all the necessary information with the contact number of the supplier of the clothing. There will only be vests and shorts available for the athletes. NO TRACKSUITS WILL BE AVAILABLE. The supplier will have a list of all the athletes who qualify for the team.

We will supply transport but with cost. The amount will be communicated soon.

Athletes must participate at any of the three leagues to be considered for the team.

The program for the Interprovincial Championships will be available with the next news letter

The fourth league will take place on the 16th of May 2015 and the venues will be:

Nkangala- Rooies Atletiekklub. HTS Cricket clubhouse, across Middelburg Primary school. (Afternoon Program).

Gert Sibande- Oosterland High School, Secunda (Afternoon Program).

Ehlanzeni- Ingwenyama Sport Resort, White River (Morning Program).

TAKE NOTE, THE VENUE FOR LEAGUE 5 AT NKANGALA WHICH IS PRESENT BY CAMBRIDGE WILL TAKE PLACE AT HOCKEY FARM AND NOT AT CAMBRIDGE ACADEMY.

The fifth league will take place on the 23rd of May 2015 and the venues are:

Nkangala- Cambridge, Hockey Farm (Morning Program)

Gert Sibande- Ligbron High School, Ermelo (Morning Program)

Ehlanzeni- High School Nelspruit, Nelspruit (Morning Program).

Take note, the entry fee for 2015 will be R20 and the temporarily licence for the athletes 13 years and older who is not member of an affiliated club is R25.

I will urge our athletes to attend the minimum amount of leagues as soon as possible and do not wait until the end. I see it many times where athletes missed the minimum criteria by only one league they shorted. No athlete will participate in the Mpumalanga Championships if they didn’t conform to the minimum criteria.

There is still athletes of 13 years and older who try to participate in their items without running number. No athlete will be allowed to start without a number. Athletes who do not have a permanent number must get a temporarily number at the entrance where they enter for their item. The cost for a temporarily number is R25.

Lastly, I want to ask athletes to complete the sticker in fully. We will not put the results of athletes on the list if there is missing information. There was a lot of entrants with only their age or only the year of birth. Let’s make sure we fill in all the information and we write it clear for the people who need to handle the results.

The contact details for each area are as follow:

Ngangala: Mari- 0832332677

Gert Sibande: Michael- 0823360662

Ehlanzeni: Boikie- 0829771665

You are welcome to contact me anytime at 0836308729.

I want to thanks all of you who really work hard to make cross country in Mpumalanga a success. To all our clubs and schools, it is really something special to see more of your athletes participate in the leagues.

Yours in athletics

News Letter 6 – 2015

News Letter 6 – 2015

3rd of May 2015

Good day all Cross Country friends.

We had three good leagues with a lot of good results. As we had again it through a past long weekend there were still a lot of runners who will make this year a serious cross country year. We had at Hockey Farm 257 athletes and at Ngungunyane a total of 76 athletes. The total athletes who take part at the league in Piet Retief were 76 athletes.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of winter sport items that took part in the long weekend as well as people who was on a well-deserved long weekend rest but we will see the old faces as well as our new people from now on.
I want to ask everyone to look at the following remarks as this can have an influence on your end results:

The stickers must be complete with all the information, no space must leave open. If you make use of a permanent number or a temporary number you must fill in the numbers. All athletes 13 years and older must have a number. If they are not a member of a club, they must get a temporary number that is available at the league for R25 a number. This number is only valid for one league.

Do not make use of a number of another runner. If you are caught, you and the runner whose number you use will be disqualified for a minimum of 2 years, it is not worth it.

Athletes must run in their age groups. There were a lot of incidents where athletes run in the wrong group.

A lot of athletes did not understand the grouping of the ages correct:

Age categories are determined according to the IAAF rules. There are basically two sets of rules, one applicable to juniors and one applicable to seniors and masters. The difference is that a junior’s age is determined on the 31st of December and seniors/masters on the day of the event. So whether your 12th birthday is on the 1st of January or 31 December, you must compete in the boys or girls 12 year age category. For seniors and masters it is your age on your birthday. If you turn 45 on the day of the competition you participate in the 45 – 49 age category. If your birthday is the day before

I ask the organisers to make sure we start on time. Make sure you are familiar with the program and times of the events. Also make sure you run in the correct event.

I want to encourage all athletes to join a club. There will be a team competition during the Mpumalanga Championships where clubs will compete in the different age groups. A total of 4 athletes per age group per club will compete for the three positions.

Make sure you write clearly on the stickers. There was a lot of information that was not clear and it can happen that the wrong information is available.

The third league will take place on the 9th of May 2015 and the venues will be:

Ngangala- Delmas Country Lodge, Delmas (Morning Program)

Gert Sibande- Secunda Stadium, Secunda (Morning Program).

Ehlanzeni- No league.

The fourth league will take place on the 16th of May 2015 and the venues are:

Nkangala- Rooies Atletiekklub. HTS Cricket clubhouse, across Middelburg Primary school. (Afternoon Program)

Gert Sibande- Oosterland High School, Secunda (Afternoon Program)

Ehlanzeni- White River (Morning Program).

Take note, the entry fee for 2015 will be R20 and the temporarily licence for the athletes 13 years and older who is not member of an affiliated club is R25.

I want to highlight again, the selection for the Mpumalanga team for the Interprovincial Championships will take place at the 16th of May 2015 at the three different areas. More detail will be available on next week end newsletter.

The contact details for each area are as follow:

Ngangala: Mari- 0832332677

Gert Sibande: Michael- 0823360662

Ehlanzeni: Boikie- 0829771665

You are welcome to contact me anytime at 0836308729.

Take note, the flu virus is travel through South Africa, let’s make sure we keep health and fit for the cross country.

18th of May 2015

Good day all Cross Country friends

A successful event took place in all three areas and we could select a strong team for the Interprovincial Championships that will take place at Merensky High School at Tzaneen.

Thank you very much for each athlete and supporter who let it took place in good spirit. It was great to see from above how all the athletes really tried their best to run on the track. For those who run for their first time, welcome to the competition where you can compete against other athletes and yourself.

I had a few requests from people to know what happen if you are not select to the team.

Please, the team was selected for this specific event at Merensky High School and after this we will start again to prepare for the Mpumalanga Championships in August. The most important thing to remember is to make sure you reach the minimum criteria of 4 leagues to ensure you can take part in the Mpumalanga Championships.

I want to ask every athlete to make sure they are preparing themselves for the event of 6 June 2015. The competition will be strong and as we did over the last three years, we can end up in the first three on the podium.

You only have time until Thursday, 21 May 2015 to order your attire from Mpumalanga Embroideries and it is for your own cost. Their telephone number is 013-2826686.
